• Image of Affective Nations

Nicole Acosta is incredibly generous with their work and I am always left feeling an immense sense of gratitude after reading any of their zines. Affective Nations is filled with such raw emotion and “is about belonging to various communities, about understanding one’s place on the margins of political or racial communities, [and] is also strangely about belonging to an affective community that no one wants to belong to.” There is a deeply unguarded and intimate feel to this zine that serves to build connections and provides comfort often across generations. Nicole has a beautiful way of intermixing personal experiences with history to discuss subjects like parenting, miscarriages, shifting racial and cultural identities and the importance of fighting for black lives.
